The weather’s getting warmer! It’s time to ditch the tights and break out those miniskirts that have been looking longingly at you all winter. It’s time to give your poor hidden legs the encouragement they need to break free from hiding and enjoy the warmer weather ahead.
Read on for our top tips on how to get smooth gorgeous legs that you won’t be able to stop running your hands over.
Exfoliate:
No matter how much you’ve moisturized during the cold, dry weather – dead skin cells can build up making your skin look dull. Use a gentle exfoliator to buff away the dry, dead skin to reveal healthy looking skin underneath.
Exfoliation also helps release trapped, ingrown hair which makes the next step a lot easier…
Ditch the Razors and Get a Wax:
If you’ve never gotten a wax before, now’s the time to try it out. Or if you’ve just taken a waxing break over winter, spring is a great time to re-start your waxing regime. There are plenty of good reasons why so many women over the world prefer waxing to shaving including:
- You can’t cut yourself while getting a wax.
- There are no unsightly razor bumps, nor do you have to contend with prickly stubble at the end of a day or two.
- Waxing weakens hair follicles over time, so your hair growth reduces over time with repeated treatments.
If you’re planning on going on a mini spring break, a bikini wax or a Brazilian wax allows you to don your swimwear with confidence. Trust us, in the hands of a waxing expert, the entire process isn’t half as painful as it sounds.
Whether you decide to go for a lower leg wax, a full leg one or a full leg with a Brazilian, the right pre-and-post wax care can help you make the most of your wax to make its effects last even longer.
Pre-Wax:
-
Grow Your Hair Out
No, we don’t mean you need to grow your hair long enough to braid it. Your hair needs to be at least 1/4 of an inch long before the wax can get a grip on it.
-
Reduce Your Sensitivity
You can also reduce your sensitivity to the waxing process by following a few rules. Don’t book your waxing appointment around the time of your period. Your skin can be quite sensitive then making the process painful. Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your wax, especially if it’s your first time getting one. Some therapists also recommend taking a pain killer about half an hour before your appointment. Do not use any retinol and Accutane for at least a week before your appointment.
-
Have a Cool Shower Before
Sweat and naturally occurring body oils can prevent wax from adhering to your skin. Having a cool shower before your waxing appointment helps your skin accept the wax better. Avoid moisturising, just this once, after your shower.
Post-Wax:
-
Wear Loose Clothing:
Wear loose clothing to your appointment. Tight clothing can chafe your already delicate skin. Treat yourself to the luxury of comfortable clothes for a couple of days after your wax and break out those maxis and flowy pants.
-
Treat Your Skin Gently:
Your skin can get a little irritable after a wax. Don’t worry, it’s completely natural and will subside soon. Treat your skin with care for a couple of days by avoiding any toiletries with artificial fragrances and avoid chlorinated swimming pools.
-
Keep Cool:
Avoid hot tubs, saunas, and hot baths for a day or two. This is because heat can open your skin’s pores making it sensitive to bacteria. Similarly, avoid the sun as UV rays can act as a stressor. Avoid intense workouts for the same reason.
